Screwy Comments

Due to some silly JavaScript glitch, the comments are presently all screwy. But not to worry, as I’m fixing them now.

Update: Comments are now fixed. Oddly enough, the problem was that the comment id tags assigned by Blogger suddenly became too long as numbers for JavaScript. So in popping up the comments window, the id tags were truncated, meaning that the id tags used by my comments scripts didn’t match those used in the blog itself. The mismatch of numbers is why why the titles of and links to the posts weren’t weren’t showing up properly on the “all comments” page. So I converted those id tags to strings in the JavaScript, moved the misnamed comments datafiles to match the actual ids of the posts, and so on. It was a somewhat tricky conversion, so I hope that I haven’t lost any comments in the process. If so, I still have the old files, so I can recover them.

Oh, and if you ever linked to the comments page of a particular post, you might want to check the link, as it might be different now. Sorry about that, but such is the price of progress!

A Technical Note

Since Chris was having so much trouble with my defective comments script, I cleaned up his entries by adding the proper URLs to the proper places. (I also deleted Roger’s extra post.) Most importantly, I fixed the script. This took a bit of digging, as I’m a bit rusty on my PERL regexps. (The problem was very minor and quite obvious in retrospect. Doh!) Oh, and I also made the comment box larger, although surely not nearly large enough for many of the recent comments!

So by all means, continue the big debate.

Since comments are pouring in these days, it’s worth a reminder that the easiest way to keep up with them is through the all comments page.

I’ve been busy updating the web site today!

I’ve posted my lecture to the COLP convention, The Philosophical Underpinnings of Capitalism, which argues that political theories collapse into one of four distinct forms of statism without a philosophical foundation of reason, egoism, harmony of interests, and mind-body integration.

I’ve added my lecture notes from two short speeches to Toastmasters, one entitled “Hidden Clues,” the other “You Like Dr. Laura?!?.” [I've since deleted those, as being of too little interest. -- DH, 23 Aug 2012]

I’ve also added a bunch of internet posts from the past two months. [I've since deleted those, as being of too little interest. -- DH, 23 Aug 2012]

And finally, I’ve added the slide presentations in PowerPoint for my 2001 talk on forgiveness and redemption.
