A friend of mine gave out cards one year that said, “Persephone is the reason for the season!” I liked them; it was a disappointment to learn, much later, from another friend who is a professor of philosophy and classics that in the original Greek myth, the season of Persephone’s absence, when everything is dying, is summer, the dry season.
