- Taste-Deaf: Robert Garmong explains how people from two different cultures can regard each others’ food as boring… and both be right!
- Extremely Rare Color Photography of Early 1900s Paris: Such photos make the past seem so much more real and so much less distant. If only we could have such photos of Ancient Greece or Rome!
- “Giving What We Can” Calls for Sacrificing What We Have: The charity that Ari Armstrong discusses here is advocating that people act on Peter Singer’s famous (and thoroughly utilitarian) article Famine, Affluence, and Morality.
- Cardinal Peter Turkson, Possible Pope Successor, Has Defended Legislation Like Uganda’s ‘Kill The Gays’ Bill: Disgusting, but thoroughly biblical.
- Gun Restrictions Punish the Rational and Responsible for Acts of the Irrational and Irresponsible: This is a good piece to share with friends on the importance of gun rights.
- Puppy teaching Puppy to go down stairs!: Awww, so cute!
- A former slave’s angry letter to his former owner claiming his daughter, 1864: A very moving letter, and I wish that we knew what happened.
- Here’s What Google Does When the Government Wants Your Emails: I’m glad to see that Google doesn’t just blindly comply with every request and that they notify users whenever possible.
- 29 Pictures Of ’80s Pop Culture At The Reagan White House: Overall, these pictures are great fun, but wow, the picture of Christopher Reeve almost made me cry.
- Ayn Rand: Queen of the Universe: Guess what? If you write an article on Ayn Rand with claims like that she “hated governments,” ignores her arguments for individual rights and attributes all her political views to her childhood experiences, and misspells the names of a major character (it’s not “Taggert”), you’re just showing yourself to be an ignorant ass. It’s possible for someone on the left or right to make a thoughtful critique of Ayn Rand, even if I might ultimately think that wrong. Unfortunately, that’s usually not what happens.
- Vassar Uses Anti-Gay Protest to Raise Funds to Help Gay Youth: Kudos to Vassar for turning hateful speech by the Westboro Baptist nutters into fundraising for a good cause.
