My Headshots

Back in December, I had a photo shoot with a Denver photographer in order to obtain a proper headshot to use for Philosophy in Action. In particular, I wanted a good photo for the cover of my forthcoming dissertation.

Everything about the experience was really stressful, simply because I had no idea what I was doing. I’m not a fashionable person: my look is almost always “farm gal” and almost never “competent professional.” So I was a bit frantic that I’d screw it up terribly and thereby waste a whole lot of time and money. Happily, I worked with really great people to get me looking pretty. Mark Stevens, the photographer, was a pleasure to work with too.

I picked Mark because his photographs showed the subject’s personality, unlike the boring corporate photographs of so many photographers. I was not disappointed. I had about 150 photographs to choose from, and very few were unacceptable. Here are the two that I chose to use:

I’m quite pleased! Happily, now that I’ve done it once, the next time that I do a photo shoot will be easy as pie!
